Phase 2: From Solo to A-license
During leaps 8–25, you grow towards taking to the air independently, safely, and confidently.
Now the real work begins. In this phase, you grow from a beginner solo jumper into a skydiver who can jump independently, safely, and in a controlled manner. You build routine, develop more control in the air, and learn everything you need for your A license.
During this phase, you work on:
- consistent and stable exits video*
- controlled flying in freefall video*
- safe and accurate landings
- automatic height awareness
- Theory knowledge for the A license info*
- knowledge of materials and learning to fold
- spotting and preparing jumps independently info*
The best training courses in this phase are:
- Canopy / Flight 1 events*
This is perhaps the most important training immediately after AFF. You will learn:
- fly a safe landing circuit
- perfect flare timing
- landing accurately
- dealing with strong winds
- more control and safety under the canopy
Preferably, you take this course before jump 20.
- Basis Formation Skydiving (FS) coach*
From about 20 jumps, you start flying with others. You learn:
- level up
- making controlled turns
- perform docks
- good break-off discipline
This training greatly accelerates your flying skills and makes group jumps safer and more fun.
- Folding course
Around jump 20, you learn more and more about your own equipment. You learn:
- how your rig works
- check canopy
- fold your parachute independently
An important step towards independence and mandatory for your A license.
- Spotting info*
You will learn:
- Independent spotting from the plane
- determine the right exit moment
- estimating wind and drift
- Safely plan where you end up
- Theory A-letter info*
In addition to practical work, you also build theoretical knowledge regarding safety, equipment, procedures, and aviation regulations in preparation for your exam.
Goals towards jump 25
By the end of this phase, you will be able to:
- Always make a stable and controlled exit
- Consistently safe and accurate landings
- Comfortable independent flying
- Perform the first 2-way and 3-way group jumps
- Folding a canopy independently
- Independently spotting and preparing jumps
- Passing the theory exam for the A license
- A-patent behalen
This is the moment you transform from student to a true independent skydiver. After obtaining your A license, you are ready for phase 3.
