Phase 1: From AFF to Solo
What is the AFF training?
The AFF training is the fastest and most intensive way to become an independent skydiver. During this training, you learn step-by-step all the techniques needed to parachute safely and in a controlled manner.
You start with extensive theory training, and then it is time for your first jump out of the plane.
At the first levels, you jump together with two experienced instructors who guide you during the free fall. As you gain more experience, you become increasingly independent until you can jump completely solo.
During this phase, you work on:
- theory emergency procedures
- physical exits: video*
- stable on stomach
- height conscious
- basic movements: video*
- flying a landing circuit
Theoriedag.
You start with extensive theory training covering safety, body posture, altitude measurement, emergency procedures, and landing techniques, among other topics.
Level 1 – First jump
Now it is time for the real work: your first jump out of the plane.
Together with two instructors, you will experience your first freefall, focusing on stability, altitude checks, and opening the parachute.

Level 2 – More control
With two instructors, you continue working on a stable posture and learn to make small steering movements. You remain actively engaged with height awareness and procedures.

Level 3 – Remaining independently stable
The instructors let go briefly so that you learn to maintain your own stability. You practice controlled flying and learn to react correctly to instability.

Level 4 – Driving yourself
You usually jump with one instructor now. You practice 90° turns to the left and right and gain more and more control over your body and direction.

Level 5 – More maneuvers
Time for more of a challenge: 360° turns and forward movements. You refine your body control and become more independent in freefall.

Level 6 – Recovery and movement
You learn to recover from unstable positions and are introduced to tracking: flying away horizontally in the air. You perform the jump increasingly independently.

Level 7 – Final Jump AFF
During the final AFF jump, you combine all skills: stable exits, turns, tracking, and a controlled opening. With this, you prove that you are ready to jump safely and independently.

Congratulations, now you can jump on your own!
After completing AFF, guided solo jumps, additional canopy training, group jumps, and safety checks usually follow. After that, you can work towards your official certification/license through, for example, the KNVvL in the Netherlands.
